WORKSHOP
DESCRIPTIONS
The following workshops are designed as 2 to 3 hour
training sessions but can be adapted to your participants'and
agency's needs and time constraints.
TITLE: "I GOT STYLE.....YOU
GOT STYLE"
This session covers two important topics: 1) The Learning
Process (The Four Dimensions of Learning),and 2) Preferred
Learning Styles. Each person develops a preferred learning
style as a result of environment and genetics. The
instruc-tional process is greatly enhanced when the
instructor is: 1) knowledgeable of the characteristics
of the different learning modalities, 2) aware of
his/her personal learning/teaching style, 3) able
to identify each student's preferred style, and 4)
provide instruction targeted to the student(s) style(s).
Good learners leam in spite of the type of presentation
- some more easily than others. Poor learners benefit
greatly by having instruction targeted to their preferred
learning style.
TITLE:
JUMP STARTING THE LEARNING PROCESS!
(Multi-Modal, Multi-Sensory Instruction)
Three of the keys to "jump starting the learning
process' are 1) understanding the Learning Process,2)
helping students understand their preferred or dominant
learning style, and 3) providing a variety of creative,
innovative, fun and challenging learning activities
which address all the learning modalities. All new
information comes in to the brain through the senses.
It is then the job of the brain to make sense out
of that information. Learning activities which are
provided in a variety of modalities are important
for more efficient mastery of new material - and the
more modalities which are activated or addressed during
the learning activity, the more quickly the person
leams and the better chance to get that information
into long term memory. This is a practical, hands-on
session to demonstrate and illustrate a variety of
multisensory learning strategies and materials based
on some of the latest information from brain research.
TITLE:
JUMP STARTING THE LEARNING PROCESS- WITH ESL STUDENTS
The same session as listed above can be adapted and
focused specifically for teaching speakers of other
languages.
